CHAMPION MEN'S OPEN REGION III NATIONAL CUP

Triangle Brigade, TASL Men's Division I team, recently competed in the Region III National Cup competition representing NC in the Men's Open division.  There were six teams in the Open Division (2 groups of 3 with the winner of each group advancing to the final).

Here is a recap of their trip!

Our first two games were our group games and the third was a crossover game so that everyone could play at least 3 games.  We drove down to Alabama on Wednesday, June 18 and had a training session on Thursday, June 19th.

Our first game was Friday evening (June 20) against Cajun Soccer SC from Louisiana. We won 2-1. Jonathan Rivera and Danny Khordehforosh each had a goal.

Our second game was Saturday morning (June 21) against a team from Florida called Red Force. They were last year's runner up in the tournament. We won 5-2. Jonathan Rivera had 3 goals, Raoul Noumbissi had 1 goal and Tim Merritt had 1 goal.

With these two wins we had already clinched our group and qualified for the final on Sunday allowing us to rest some guys in our evening game against another Florida team called Lynch's. We lost this game but we were not trying to exert any unneeded energy as we were already in the final.

The final was played on Sunday (June 22) against last year's champion NTX Rayados who made it to the third round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup this summer. We won 4-1. Brett Griffith and Jonathan Rivera each had 2 goals.

We have qualified for the 2015 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup and will be representing NC and USASA Region III in the USASA National Open Cup in Salt Lake City, UT on July 25-27.
